NAME OF POSITION: Director of Personnel
PERSON’S SENIOR: VP of Human Resources
PURPOSE (The reason why the position exists): To ensure all new employees are ready to learn, work hard, be a well fitting part of the company and that they are naturally geared or predisposed toward the job and department they will be working in. Another facet of this post is to establish the organization through well-informed employees: employees that have easily accessible knowledge are best poised to work more efficiently which delivers not only a quicker product, but a better product. And finally, one of the most important aspects of the post is to promote high morale- without this (an enthusiastic employee), a company cannot function as productivity is the result of high morale.
VIEWPOINT (The viewpoint that an employee should have, to be successful at the job): A company is it’s people, more than the product, goals, clients, or building. A company is a group of people going toward a goal. Your role is to ensure that each employee you bring on board must be willing to take orders well, be able to make things go right where things would otherwise go wrong, must have a personality that does well to balance the groups they will be a part of, and most importantly be ready to work hard in ways that are constantly improving even though they might be able to get along with coasting. Any newly hired employee must also be willing to do any job that might fall on them. No prospective employee should be “sold” into a job, regardless of anything, the employee will have to face the reality of the job, so the grim reality of the job is what should be communicated. Being clear with company and post expectations is how to achieve the goal, therefore, you as the Director of Personnel should know what is needed and wanted from each post that you are hiring for.
