Remove the cellophane wrapping and discard it. Recycle the label.
Stop and look at how the file folder is made and its different parts and how they work.
It is secured by elastic cords that bind it at either corner.
The elastic cord at the top that is secured by a button in the center allows
you to open and close it.
On either side at the top are little prongs that can be pushed in or
out and whose purpose is to allow it to function as a hanging file folder or not.
Now open it at the top and look inside. You will see plastic separating sections with a tab at the top of each.
3. On the front of the first section, you will see two white paper labels. Recycle those. In the very back of the file folder you will find a multicolored strip of tabs that goes to the Donations box in the breakroom.
4. There are labels already printed on card stock paper and cut out. Joan has the template for making more of these as well as a paper cutter.
5. Start at the left side of the folder and put labels in each of the tabs in this order:
Purchase Docs
Trust
Deed Insurance
Land Contract
Property Preservation
Taxes / Utilities / Code Violations
6. Get the P-Touch Brother label maker that is stored in the breakroom.
Make sure that the label tape cartridge is black and 18 mm thick.
Turn it on using the round red button on the far left.
Press the FONT bar on the far left. Settings should be:
Font: 14LGO
Size: 18 Point
Width: X1
Style: Normal
Line: Off
Align: Left.
Use the square button with arrows pointing in up, down, right, left to navigate. Press the OK button as you would the Enter key on your computer keyboard.
Type in the address of the house that belongs to the trust. Use all capital letters. Hit PRINT, the dark button on the far right, twice and then push down on the scissors lever in the upper left corner of the label maker to cut the label once it prints. The label tape has a backing that is split so it will be easy to peel it off to expose the adhesive. Position it on the top of the front cover of the file folder. The button in the front will give you an idea of how to center it. Don’t worry about it being perfect, but try to get the letters straight on the edge so that they are easy to read. It’s plastic tape on a plastic cover, so it’s easy to reposition without damaging the tape. First press down attaching it to the edge of the file, then do the tape above and below starting at the lettering and smoothing it outwards. You don’t want to create bubbles.
Now take a Sharpie that is a permanent marker and write the Trust Number on the front of the cover in the upper left hand corner. Note that there is an edge a little less than one inch that runs across the width of the folder. It serves as a good guideline for lettering. Write as clearly as you can in all capital letters. The Trust letters and numbers should not go past the button in the middle or below the guideline.
Use a good quality tape approximately two inches wide. Shipping tape is fine.
Cover the label or else it will pop up in a short period of time and fall off. Pull off a strip of tape that will cover the label and overlap it an inch and a half to two inches on either side. Don’t measure; just eyeball it. Use the serrated edge of the dispenser to cut the tape. With a pair of scissors cut off the edges that are serrated. You want the label to be surrounded by tape on all four sides to secure it. Try to handle the tape by the edges and put as few fingerprints on it as possible.
Position the tape over the edge of the top of the file folder over the label. You want to try to center it over the label both horizontally and vertically. When you have it where you want it, just place it over the label. Run your finger over the edge of the file folder. You want to avoid creating bubbles. Then press the tape from the center outward to the top and bottom. If you need to, you can easily reposition it on above or below the label. Make sure it’s pressed to the plastic.
Here’s what your finished product looks like. Your Trust File Folder is now ready to receive documents!
