As the Zoom account owner or admin, you can view or change the main company number you choose during initial setup. The main company number can be used by external callers to reach your phone users (by dialing the main company number and the user's extension). It can also be used by phone users as their caller ID when making calls.

Note: The main company number is assigned to the main auto receptionist. In other words, dialing the main company number will route to the main auto receptionist. If you have multiple sites, the main company number is assigned to the main auto receptionist of the main site.

Prerequisites

  • Pro, Business, or Education account
  • Account owner or admin privileges
  • Zoom Phone license

Changing the main company number

The main company number is chosen during the initial setup. Follow these steps to view or change your main company number.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Phone Numbers.
  3. Click the Assigned tab.
     The main company number is displayed at the top.
  4. Click the drop-down menu to change the main company number. You can either:
    • Choose from numbers assigned to the main auto reception. The previous main company number will remain assigned to the main auto receptionist.
    • Click Select an unassigned number and choose a number from the list of unassigned numbers then click Confirm. You can also click Get Numbers to purchase a new phone number. Select one of these options:
      • Replace & Keep: Replace the main company number with the selected number, then keep the previous main company number. You can assign the number that was previously the main company number.
        Note: You must have an available phone number license to see this option.
      • Replace & Delete: Replace the main company number with the selected number, then delete the previous main company number. The same phone number license is used.

Re-assigning a phone number to the main company number

If you have a direct number assigned to a phone user, call queue, common area phone, auto receptionist,  or Zoom Room, follow these steps to assign it to the main company number and main auto receptionist.

Note: You can also re-assign a number between phone users, call queues, common area phones, auto receptionists, or Zoom Rooms.

  1. Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  2. In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Phone Numbers.
  3. Click the number you want to assign as the main company number.
  4. Next to Assigned To, click the Unbind next the phone user, room, call queue or auto receptionist name.
  5. Click Yes to confirm. The number will appear in the list of unassigned numbers.
  6. Click the Assigned tab.
     The main company number is displayed at the top.
  7. Click the drop-down menu, then click Select an unassigned number.
  8. Choose a number from the list of unassigned numbers then click Confirm. Select one of these options:
    • Replace & Keep: Replace the main company number with the selected number, then keep the previous main company number. You can assign the number that was previously the main company number.
      Note: You must have an available phone number license to see this option.
    • Replace & Delete: Replace the main company number with the selected number, then delete the previous main company number. The same phone number license is used.

Changing the main company or site caller ID name 

The caller ID name is displayed all outbound calls from the organization. If have multiple sites, you need to change the caller ID name for each site. You cannot change the caller ID names of individual users.

Note:

  • You caller ID is only applied to US and Canada phone numbers.
  • Receiving parties will not see the new caller ID right away because of the process to determine your outbound caller ID name. It can take around 3 weeks for the new caller ID name to be updated for external providers.
  • Even with multiple sites, your organization can only have one main company number. The caller ID name of the main site will be applied to the main company number.
  • Sign in to the Zoom web portal.
  • In the navigation menu, click Phone System Management then Company Info.
  • Click Account Settings.
  • Follow one of these options depending on if you have multiple sites:
    • If you enabled multiple sites: Click the name of the site you want to edit, then click the Settings tab.
    • If you disabled multiple sites: Click Account Settings.
  • In the Caller ID Name section, click Change next to the current caller ID name.
  • Enter a new caller ID name and click Save.
    Note: The caller ID name has the following restrictions.
    • Maximum of 15 characters
    • Displays with all uppercase letters regardless of how you specify it in Zoom Phone
    • Cannot contain any special characters, including spaces or periods
